On 23-25 April the Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu participated in the 14th International Choir Festival “Tallinn 2015”. A competition in several voice, age and style groups was held along with a series of concerts in concert halls and churches of Tallinn. The artistic director of the festival was Heli Jürgenson, the festival was organised by the Estonian Choral Association. The conductor of the Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu, Triin Koch, was a member of the Music Commission of the festival. The international jury featured chairman Ants Soots (Estonia), Ragnar Rasmussen (Norway), John Fitzpatrick (Ireland), Maud Hamon-Loisance (France), and Ints Teterovskis (Latvia).
The Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu took part in the chamber choir category, which brought together high-level choirs from Estonia and abroad. In a tight competition the Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu won 3rd prize, being the best Estonian choir in this category. Second place was awarded to Ljubljana Music and Ballet Conservatory Choir from Slovenia and the winner of the category was Adolf Friedrik’s Church Youth Choir from Stockholm, Sweden. The latter also won the Grand Prix of the festival.
The Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu has taken part in the Tallinn international choir festival many times, latest in 2009. Back then the choir took home 2nd prize in the chamber choir category (no 1st prize was awarded). The choir also participated in the contemporary music category.
