Competition at the 14th international choir festival “Tallinn 2015″

The Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu goes to a choir competition third time in a row this season. This time we are competing with other choirs in our very own capital city Tallinn, where 14th international choir festival “Tallinn 2015” is held. From 23rd to 25th April a competition and series of concerts are given in concert halls and churches of Tallinn. The artistic director of the festival is Heli Jürgenson, the festival is organised by Estonian Choral Association. The conductor of the Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu, Triin Koch, is a member of the Music Commission of the festival.

The Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu has taken part in Tallinn international choir festival for many times, latest in 2009. Then the choir got the 2nd prize at the competition for chamber choirs (no 1st place was awarded). Also the choir participated in the competition for contemporary music category.

This year The Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu competes only  at the competition for chamber choirs. The category will start on 24th April at 4.30 PM in Estonia Concert Hall (Estonia pst 4) and The Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu will start with their programme at 5.07 PM. Besides The Chamber Choir of the University of Tartu the category consists of Oslo Vokalensemble, Noorus Mixed Choir, Tallinn University Chamber Choir, Choir of the Ljubljana Conservatory for Music and Ballet, and Adolf Fredrik’s Church Youth Choir. The compulsory piece at the category is from Irish composer Charles Villiers Standford (1852-1924), “Justorum animae”, 1st part from the cycle “Three Latin Motets”.

The pass is valid for all festival concerts (apart from the final concert) and competitions. Bought ticket must be exchanged for a pass before the concerts at the festival infodesk at the Estonia Concert Hall.
